Overall National Winner & Housewife's Choice 2006/7 - Of The Northern Ireland National Sausage Competition Sponsored By The Ulster Pork & Bacon Forum - With Our National Award Winning Pork Sausages

Robert Overend, Ulster Pork & Bacon Forum and Celebrity Chef Sean Owens presenting Gordon McCartney with the 1st prize certificate for the National Sausage Competition, the shop was also the first prize winner in the County Down Category.

The main objective of the competition in Northern Ireland was to find the Housewife's Choice of Pork Sausage. In this category this is a serve over the counter traditional pork sausage that is available all year round from the participating premises. Sean Owens, Pork and Bacon Forum and Chairman of the judge's panel stated that the National Sausage Competition has now outgrown all its structures and 178 butcher premises participated in the competition, submitting 253 entries that were widely collected over two days. It was again stressed that the Housewife's Choice award is based on the winning county entries and the housewife has the final say on the night.
